Blue Sapphire Stones

Blue sapphires stones are a lovely addition to any piece of jewelry. Blue sapphire stones are also the birthstone for the month of September, and will be cherished by anyone who may be born in that month. Sapphire stones may not have the cachet, or high value of diamonds, but they have their own unique qualities which make them valuable.

Emeralds, Rubies, and Sapphires

In the world of colored gemstones there are three major different gemstones which are the most commonly found in jewelry. These three major gemstones are emerald, ruby, and sapphire. In terms of the value, for buying or reselling the gemstones, color is the primary attribute for determining the value of a colored gemstone.

Value

With blue sapphire stones the appearance of the gemstone will determine its value. The following qualities will determine which gemstones have the most value per carat. The most valuable blue sapphire stones have colors which range from a violet blue to a velvet blue. Sapphires with a color saturation level which ranges from strong to vivid levels will be the most valuable. Essentially, you would want the blue sapphire stone to have a color saturation level which is as strong as it can be without making the color of the stone darker. A darker colored stone will reduce the brightness, and therefore the value, of the gemstone.
