One thing you may not be aware of is that other precious gems are also in demand. Like diamonds they can come in different colors and shapes and can bring in different amounts of profit when reselling your jewelry. It can become somewhat confusing with all the varieties of non-diamond gems. These must know tips will help.

Types

There is long list of gemstones from around the world used in a variety of ways. Some commons gems that you might find in your own jewelry includes:

  • Amethyst- This gem is a brilliant purple. It is sometimes related to Greek and Roman mythology

  • Emerald- This green stone is somewhat rare and can run from light to dark green. It was considered by many civilizations to have supernatural powers
  • Pearls- This is organic gem is created by oysters. It comes in hues of white or black and is the gem that suggests culture, beauty and refinement.
  • Turquoise- Originating with ancient Persians, this gorgeous stone is one of the oldest known gems. It is a light bluish color that can go from light blue-green to dark blue. They sometimes have veins running through the stone.

These are just a few of the more popular stones you may find in your jewelry. There are others but there is a good chance you own one or all  four mentioned.

Is it Real?

Be sure your gems are the real thing. If you have a certificate or an original receipt take it with you when you sell. Your jewelry will make more for you if the stones are in excellent shape especially rarer ones such as the emerald. Most older jewelry isn't going to be perfect but gems with minimal inclusions or cracks is your best bet for a successful sale.
